Four arrested in Mangaluru for circulating fake currency notes

Mangaluru, August 19, 2024: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Mangaluru have apprehended four individuals involved in the circulation of counterfeit currency within the city. The suspects, identified as V. Priyesh (38) from Kolathur in Kasaragod district, Vinod Kumar (33) from Muliyaar, Abdul Khader S.A (58) from Hosadurga, and Ayub Khan (51) from Puttur, were found in possession of 427 counterfeit ₹500 notes, amounting to a total value of ₹2,13,500.

The investigation revealed that Priyesh operated a printing press in Cherkala, Kasaragod district, where the counterfeit currency was being produced. The gang sourced raw materials from Kozhikode in Kerala and Delhi to manufacture the fake notes. They learned the counterfeiting process through YouTube tutorials and utilized Priyesh’s printing press to produce and distribute the counterfeit currency.

Acting on intelligence regarding the circulation of fake notes in Mangaluru, the CCB police tracked down the suspects and successfully apprehended them. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation.
