Udupi, 16 September 2010:  The immersion procession of Lord Ganesha idol worshipped for five days at Udupi, was held on Wednesday September 15.

The procession was part of the Sarvajanika Ganeshostava programme organized by the people of Udupi to mark Ganesha Chaturthi.  The procession lead by Elephant, followed by sword warriors demonstrating their martial art skills, Tiger dancers performing tiger dance matching the beats of “Chande” who are just behind them, which followed by various performers and Tablos, with Chande drummers and finally the idol of Sri Ganesh (Pattada Ganapathi of Sri Krishna Mutt) in the procession. Huge crowd participated in the procession while crackers were being burst from the begininng of the procession and at the immersion point.


The tableaux, which werethe main attraction of this procession, depicted epic heroes and attracted the crowd. Devotees offered poojas at several points during the course of the procession.   


The police department had arranged adequate security for the procession in the wake of several recent incidents disturbing the communal harmony in the city.
