Mangaluru, Dec 8, 2024: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport seized gold worth Rs.48.75 lakh and liquid nicotine valued at Rs.1.41 lakh during routine inspections on December 1 and 2. The items were being smuggled into the country from Dubai.
The contraband was discovered when customs intercepted two passengers from Kasaragod who had arrived on an Air India Express flight from Dubai. A thorough inspection revealed 625 grams of 24-carat gold, ingeniously concealed in egg-shaped envelopes hidden within their bodies. Officials also confiscated 147 refills of liquid nicotine, commonly used in e-cigarettes.
The seized items have been secured, and further investigations are underway to identify the networks involved in the smuggling operation.
