Govt. grants another ₹40 crore for ongoing Kallapu-Sajipa riverfront road project, says U.T. Khader

Mangaluru, April 28, 2025: The State government has sanctioned another ₹40 crore for the ongoing Kallapu-Sajipa riverfront road project, Legislative Assembly Speaker and Mangaluru MLA U.T. Khader said here on Sunday.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Khader said that earlier, the government had sanctioned ₹15 crore for the project. By sanctioning ₹40 crore for the project now, the government has sanctioned 25% of the total project cost which is ₹160 crore. The project under way along the Netravathi river front (on the banks of the river) is being taken up in phases.

Better connectivity

The road will connect Mangaluru with areas like Harekala, Pavoor, Innoli and Ranipura. “This road will turn out to be a good connectivity road for Harekala residents,” he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given approval for construction of Pavoor-Uliya hanging foot bridge at a cost of ₹12 crore. As the project cost is more than ₹10 crore, it has to be approved by the State Cabinet. “I hope it gets approval at the forthcoming Cabinet meeting,” he said.  

Sea erosion prevention works

Mr. Khader said the government has earmarked ₹200 crore for sea erosion prevention works along Karnataka coast.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan will soon submit a proposal to the government to sanction ₹70 crore for filling gaps that have appeared in the sea protection wall near Someshwar, Batpady and a few other places in Ullal. The opinion of NIT-K Surathkal authorities will be taken before commencing the work, he said.

The government has given ₹1.5 crore to each of 18 gram panchayats under Mangaluru Assembly constituency for development works, he added.

New district prison

On the construction of the new district prison in Balepuni, near Mangaluru, Mr. Khader said Home Minister G. Parameshwara has assured of releasing grants for completing pending phase-I and phase-II works of the prison, Mr. Khader said.
