Giving details of the case, SP Rishyanth CB said the deceased girl as well as Padmaraj knew each other for the past six years and were reportedly having an affair.

SP said investigations have revealed that Gowri came into contact with Padmaraj while studying in ninth standard at a school in Vittal. However when there arose some differences in 2020, Gowri had lodged a complaint against Padmaraj in Vittal police station. Police had summoned both of them and had got them sign a bond that they would not talk with each other in the future, SP Rishyanth said.

However, both remained in touch later on and Padmaraj even gifted her a mobile phone. Recently both had a discord and Gowri refused to accept Padmaraj’s love. He reportedly visited the fancy store in Puttur where the girl worked and snatched the mobile phone that he had gifted from her bag. This incident had been caught on CCTV camera.

Later Gowri had called Padmaraj using another phone and asked him to return the phone. As Padmaraj agreed she was waiting for him near the women’s police station. When Padmaraj arrived there both had an altercation and he pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the neck, the SP informed.

The post-mortem of Gowri was done at Wenlock and the body was handed over to the family. A large number of people had gathered outside Wenlock.
