Surathkal, December 11, 2009: Karnataka State Home Minister Dr V S Acharya today inaugurated 24th Indian Engineering Congress of The Institute of Engineers (INDIA) being hosted at National Institute of Technology Surathkal. In his inaugural address, Dr. Acharya said that security in all sectors is of paramount importance in achieving national growth. Giving security to education, health, employment, training and other social sectors will be of help in national development.
He further observed that though 40% of engineering colleges of the country are situated in Karnataka, the state has still not been able to produce another engineering prodigy like the legendary Sir M Vishweshvarayya. Engineering colleges should focus on civil engineers as they can build the nation, he advised.
Outstanding achievers in the field of engineering were honored by Dr V S Acharya. Umesh Bhatt (Secretary), NITK Director Prof. Sandeep Sancheti (Chairman, Organizing Committee), P M Chacko, Dr M P Chowdiah, R P Gupta, Madan Lal, President, Rear Admiral K O Thakare, G L Rao, N V Vaish C R Alimchandani, J Mascarenhas, Prasad Rao and Maj Gen R K Sanan were present on the dais.
