Hospital letting out sewage into rajakaluve at Padil, says councillor

Mangaluru, January 31, 2025: A newly opened hospital at Padil is letting out its sewage water into the rajakaluve, Chandravathi Vishwanath, councillor, Kannur ward, told the council of Mangaluru City Corporation on Thursday.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the council, presided over by Mayor Manoj Kumar, she said that the sewage let out thus is joining the Netravathi.


The hospital should process its sewage through sewage treatment plant (STP). But it is not doing it, she claimed.

Responding to it an official told the council that the hospital has set up the STP. Then the Mayor instructed the official to check whether the STP is operational and take necessary action on the complaint of the councillor within fortnight.

T. Praveenchandra Alva, councillor, Kankanady ward, said that the Kadekar wet well linked to the STP at Bajal is not operational. Hence its sewage is joining the Netravathi.

Mr. Alva said that sewage from Munchur wet well linked to Madya STP is also not operational and its sewage is joining the Nandini.

Then the official explained to the council the steps being taken by the corporation to address such issues.
