Illegal sand excavation in Pavoor Uliya: Catholic Sabha to take out Padayatra on September 27

Mangaluru, September 24, 2024: The Catholic Sabha has decided to take out a Padayatra on September 27 to condemn the unabated illegal sand extraction in Pavoor Uliya island of Ullal.

Speaking to reporters, the Sabha President Alwyn D’Souza said the unabated illegal sand extraction has resulted in the area of the island shrinking from the earlier 80 acres to 40 acres. He said the people here are devoid of basic amenities and many houses are in danger.

Appeals made to the district administration have proved futile, he said adding that on September 27 local residents will take out a Padayatra from Balmatta Circle at 3 pm and hold a public meeting in front of the Mini Vidhana Saudha.

D’Souza said many like-minded individuals will join hands in this agitation.
