Mangaluru, Mar 21, 2023: The Bunt community should be dropped from the present category 3(B) and must be added to category 2(A), demanded Buntara yane Nadavara Matru Sangha President Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi.
Addressing press persons here on March 21, Tuesday, he also urged the government to form the Buntara Nadavara Development Corporation and also to set up the Buntara yane Nadavara Adhyayana Kendra in Mangaluru University. He urged the government to fulfil the demands of the Bunt community before the election code of conduct comes into force.
He said 40% of the members of the Bunt community are below the poverty line and are leading a life of distress. The repeated appeal regarding the demands of the Bunt community have not been fulfilled by any of the previous governments, he alleged.
He highlighted the role played by the Bunts in the development of the district, state and the nation. Ajith Kumar Rai further demanded that temples which were in the hands of hereditary Bunt Trustees but are now under the control of the government, must be returned to the original owners. The AB Shetty Circle should be constructed at its original place and must be bigger and beautiful, free health insurance must be provided to the BPL card holders of the community and their children, Rai demanded.
