Mangalore, May 18 : JR Lobo, newly elected MLA of Mangalore South constituency, visited the much neglected old port area in Mangalore on May 17, Friday and gave a patient hearing to the several longstanding problems confronting the residents and traders of the area.
The MLA accompanied by the local Corporator Abdul Latif and city corporation engineer visited several places in the ward which faced problems due to disorderly underground drainage in turn posing health hazards to locals. The narrow roads of the area too have been a stumbling block in providing proper drainage.
The first visit was to the Bamboo bazaar where there was a complaint that a bund created by some land owners in the area blocked the free flow of rain water leading to water clogging during monsoons.
The legislator also visited Goodshed Road and Hoigebazar where a temporary bund made of sand bags erected by M/sYojaka Projects to access their project site had also brought in fears of artificial floods in the area during monsoon.
After consultations with the old port authorities as well as representatives of Yojaka, the MLA informed that a meeting would be held at the old port office on May 22 to find a solution to the problem well before the onset of monsoon.
The Vitobha Bhajana Mandir in the area was inaugurated by Lobo during his visit.
