Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2014: Members of the Nagarika Horata Samithi and the DYFI took out a protest rally against the MRPL from Kottara Chowki to the MUDA office with brooms in hands on December 22, Monday.
Muneer Katipalla, DYFI leader who addressed the protestors said the coke and sulphur plants of the MRPL have wreaked havoc on the lives of the people of Jokatte who are facing health hazards and skin problems. He also demanded the shutting down of the two units.
He further alleged that those residents of Jokatte who had earlier protested against the plant have been booked for no fault. He further urged the district administration to intervene and ensure the closure of the coke and sulphur units.
Another speaker, PV Rao pointed out that residents of Jokatte are facing problems due to contamination of water and alleged that the district administration despite being aware of the problem was not taking any action.
Hussain Jokatte also spoke on the occasion.
