Mangalore, March 29: Advocate Ivan D’Souza, who is also a Congress leader, accused District-in-charge Krishna J Palemar of being the culprit behind the missing case of advocate Preetham Kumar. He, therefore, demanded an immediate CBI inquiry to be made into the case or the temporary resignation of Krishna J Palemar. Ivan D’Souza was speaking at a protest staged by the DK Congress in front of the DC’s office on March 29, Monday.
He also accused the district police of neglecting the case of missing advocate Preetham Kumar even two months after the lawyer was reported missing. Certain sources have revealed that Preetham Kumar’s love affair with one of the relatives of Palemar might be the reason he went missing.
The lawyer reportedly received a phone call on Jan 24 at 8:30 p.m. and left home. He has been missing ever since. The police do not even know whether he is alive or dead. Ivan D’Souza accused Palemar of preventing the police department from conducting an investigation into this case.
Ivan D’Souza said that Preetham Kumar’s parents filed a missing person complaint at Kavoor police station. Instead of conducting an inquiry into the case, the police are trying to cover it up on the basis of a habeas corpus petition pending in the High Court, he alleged, adding that the truth has not been revealed although two months have passed since the lawyer went missing. He said that culprits must be punished even though they occupy high and influential positions.
M G Hegde, a spokesperson of the Congress Party, said that the party will fight till it gets justice. Vinay Kumar Sorake, Mamatha Gatty, Arun Coelho, DK Ashok, and Kodijal Ibrahim also participated in the protest.
