Mangaluru, January 12, 2025: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lauded kambala, an unifying and secular sporting tradition of Tulunadu. Speaking at the Lava-Kusha Jodukare Kambala in Naringana, under the guidance of Assembly Speaker UT Khader, the CM highlighted the sport’s role in fostering harmony and transcending cultural and social boundaries.
“Kambala reflects our nation’s unity in diversity. It transcends barriers of religion, caste, and language, bringing people together. Our government is committed to fostering harmony and avoiding divisive practices,” Siddaramaiah said on Saturday.
He recalled the Karnataka government’s efforts to overturn the Supreme Court’s initial ban on kambala, enabling the preservation of this rural sport. “Kambala symbolizes the bond between farmers and their buffaloes. The government has taken significant steps to safeguard this cherished tradition,” he added.
The CM acknowledged pressure from Speaker UT Khader to participate in the kambalotsava and said the government would seriously consider making Tulu a second official language. Siddaramaiah also praised Khader’s dedication as Speaker, noting his improved Kannada proficiency and commitment to his responsibilities.
During the event, Siddaramaiah handed over compensation cheques to the family of three victims who lost their lives in a tragic gas cylinder explosion in Manjanady village, Ullal taluk.
