Karavali Utsav to feature cultural events galore

Mangalore, Jan 6: The DK district administration has arranged a number of cultural events as part of Karavali Utsav 2010 – 11, which will be held at Kadri Park as well as Exhibition Ground. Speaking to reporters at a press meet held in the Conference Hall of the DC’s office on Jan 6, Thursday, Additional Deputy Commissioner S. A. Prabhakar Sharma, who is also the chairman of the Karavali Utsav Publicity Committee, said that two concerts will be held daily on Exhibition Ground from 6:00 p.m. and a special music and dance concert will be held daily at Kadri Park from Jan 7 to Jan 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmdhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade inaugurated the 45-day Karavali Utsav, which is scheduled to conclude on Feb 5, 2011, on Dec 22, 2010. Owing to the code of conduct, which was enforced on DK because of the ZP/TP polls, the Utsav has been a low-key affair so far.


Committee Member Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that a Carnatic Classical vocal programme will be presented by Vidhushi Prarthana Sai Narasimhan of Chennai and a Vachana programme by Shri Mounesh Kumar of Mangalore on Jan 7. Master Akash of Bangalore will present a bansuri recital on Jan 8. A harmony sol concert will be presented by Maestro Pt. Vasanth Kanakapur of Dharwad on Jan 9.


On Jan 10, a Carnatic flute recital will be presented by Krishna Pawan Kumar of Mangalore, after which an instrumental jugalbandhi by famous musicians Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar of Kolkata and Ustad Rafique Khan of Mangalore will be held. On Jan 11, a concert of devotional songs will be presented by Mahalaxmi Shenoy of Karkala, after which a Bharathanatyam programme will be presented by Divya Sena and troupe of Chennai. On Jan 12, a Kuchupudi dance will be presented by Kishori Posalakanti of Chennai.


On Jan 13, a Carnatic Classical vocal concert will be presented by Prabath and Pramod of Chennai followed by a Bharathanatyam presentation by Vidhwan Satyanarayan Raju and troupe of Bangalore. On Jan 14, a violin concert will be held by Dileep K. J. of Chennai followed by a unique vocal Bansuri jugalbandhi by Vidhushi Bombay Jayashree and Pt. Ronu Majumdar of Mumbai. On Jan 15, a Hindustani Classical vocal performance and devotional songs will be presented by Dhananjay Hegde of Mumbai followed by a Carnatic classical vocal presentation by Vidhwan T. M. Krishna of Chennai.


Besides, two Udaya Raga concerts will be held on Jan 9 and Jan 16 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.


Committee members such as L. Narendra Nayak, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, and Chandrashekar Reddy were present at the meeting.
