The other four suspected Naxals managed to escape in the forests. Presently combing operations are underway to search for them. Among those who escaped are Latha, Jayanna and Vanajakshi.

The area where the encounter took place is covered with thick forest and has three houses including two of Malekudiya tribals. The ANF was waiting at the spot following information that Naxals would come to the place.

Peethabailu is about ten kms away from Kabbinale bus stand and has to be reached by foot. The houses here reportedly do not have electricity connection.
A few years ago, there were reports that Vikram Gowda was killed in an encounter at Kigga near Shringeri. Later it was learnt that the killed person was someone else.

The slain Vikram Gowda was the chief of Netravathi Dala of Naxals and had reportedly fled to Kerala with his accomplices after police intensified search for him. In 2016, he escaped narrowly in an encounter at Neelambari near Shringeri.
