Karnataka gets new top cop, Alok Mohan appointed as DG&IGP

Bengaluru, May 21, 2023: The government on Saturday gave IPS officer Alok Mohan additional charge of director general & inspector general of police (DG&IGP), Karnataka.

With incumbent DG&IGP Praveen Sood due for central deputation (he will be Central Bureau of Investigation director), the new government relieved him on Saturday. A few hours after taking charge, the government gave 1986 batch IPS officer Mohan additional charge of the DG&IGP post.

Alok Mohan is serving as DG commandant general, home guards, ex-officio director of civil defence, director of fire force and head of Special Disaster Response Force. He will also hold additional charge of chairperson, Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. While Mohan will take charge on May 22, Sood is expected to assume office in CBI headquarters, New Delhi, on May 25.
