Kasargod, Oct 26, 2020:    The Tata Covid Hospital that has come up at Thekkil village near Chattanchal in Kasargod at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crores will  start functioning from October 28 according to Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja.

The Hospital was built by the Tata Group to help the state government effectively manage the Covid crisis. The hospital with a total of 553 beds has all the facilities to treat Covid patients.

As  an initial measure the government has created 191 new posts including that of medical, para medical and administrative staff and measures are being taken to fill the same.

Though the hospital was handed over to the government by Tata Group early September itself, the failure to make it operational has invited criticism. Even Kasargod MP Rajmohan Unnithan had planned an indefinite hunger strike from November 1 over the delay  in making the hospital functional.

The government has plans to convert this Covid Hospital into a normal hospital once the pandemic subsides.
