Kasargod woman among 2 who drowned in sea at Australia

Kasargod, June 12, 2024: A woman from Kasargod was among the two women who drowned in the sea at Australia on Monday evening.While Roshna, Nirshah’s sister, managed to swim to safety with injuries, Marwa and Nirshah were swept away by the current.

The deceased woman from Kasargod is Marva Hasima (33), wife of Dr Sirajuddin of Tayalangady. Another woman Nirsha Harris (38) of Kozhikode too died. Nirshah is survived by husband T K Haris, and parents, A S Rahman and Laila.

It is learnt both lost balance and fell into the sea during a trip to Sydney Sutherland on Monday evening. Nirsha’s sister too fell into the sea but was rescued. It is learnt they were walking on the rocks when they fell into the sea after a mighty wave lashed at the rocks.


A helicopter search and rescue operation was launched, and both Marwa and Nirshah were found unconscious in the water. Despite medical efforts, both women could not be revived.

The area where the incident occurred is known as a ‘Black Spot’ due to its history of accidents and fatalities. Local police have acknowledged that accidental deaths are common in this location.

Marwa Hashim’s husband, Dr Sirajuddin, is originally from Kasaragod, and the family has been living in Australia for about ten years.
