Mangaluru, Sep 23,2017 : A semi-nude protest march organised by the Justice for Kavya Committee to protest against the inordinate delay in the probe into the case of suspicious death of Alva’s school student Kavya Poojary, was thwarted by the police who arrested the protestors including Kavya’s mMother Baby Poojary.
The protestors had gathered near the Hampankatta Signal Circle on September 23, Saturday morning, for the march. Though the police had warned them against holding semi nude protest, some of them removed their shirt as the procession reached A B Shetty Circle. Soon after they were arrested by the police.
Later the agitators protested in front of the DC Office. Speaking on the occasion, Dinaker Shetty, Convenor of the Justice for Kavya Committee said the police did not allow the protest despite the organisers intimating about the same in writing. He also demanded that the post mortem report of Kavya should be made public.
He pointed out that the Committee which had waited for over two hours to meet the Home Minister during his visit to the city, was sent off within two minutes of handing over memorandum to the minister. He said the Committee wants a CoD probe into the case and also a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Kavya.
