Kerala laborer found dead in police custody at Brahmavar following harassment allegation

Brahmavar, Nov 10, 2024: A Kerala-based laborer, who was brought to the Brahmavar police station on charges of harassing a woman, was reported dead in the cell’s bathroom early this morning. The deceased has been identified as Biju Mohan (42), a native of Kollam, Kerala.

Biju Mohan had been working at a fish factory in Hangarakatte and had joined the job only three days ago. He was staying in a rented house in Suribettu. On the night of November 9, he allegedly harassed a woman living nearby.

Hearing the woman’s screams, locals gathered and confined Biju Mohan inside the house. They then informed the police, who arrived at the scene, took him into custody, and brought him to the station. It is reported that Biju Mohan, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was kept in the cell. Around 3:30 AM, he was found collapsed in the nearby bathroom. He was immediately taken to the Brahmavar Primary Health Center, where doctors declared him dead, according to the police.
