Health department officials reported that the illness appears to have originated from contaminated water and has begun to spread from person to person. Approximately 145 individuals have already recovered after receiving medical treatment. Three patients are currently under observation at Kundapur Government Hospital and Byndoor, while some have been admitted to private facilities and others are managing their symptoms at home. Fortunately, there are no serious cases at this time.

A nurse from Byndoor PHC, who treated an affected patient, has reportedly contracted the illness and is receiving care.

Dr. Premananda from Kundapur Hospital stated, “We haven’t seen any serious cases. As soon as the first case was identified, we implemented precautionary measures. We’ve gathered information from the area, and all patients have shown recovery after treatment.”

Mohanchandra, president of the Uppunda gram panchayat, emphasized, “We are taking steps to ensure a continuous supply of clean drinking water and prioritizing cleanliness within the panchayat. Support from the public and officials is essential right now.”

Dr. Rajesh, medical officer of Byndoor, added, “The virus spreads not only through contaminated water but also from person to person. There’s no need to panic. It’s crucial to drink boiled water, wash hands before meals, and maintain good hygiene.”
