CITU State General Secretary Comrade S. Prasanna Kumar inaugurated the protest and said that the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India is making it very difficult for the LIC agents to function with terms and conditions such as making it mandatory for LIC agents to sell 12 policies and collect premiums worth Rs. 1 lakh every year.

The above-mentioned condition is making life very difficult for LIC agents in rural areas who are unable to collect premiums worth Rs. 1 lakh annually. Even the senior LIC agents are affected by this condition, as a result of which nearly 60,000 agents all over the country have lost their jobs.

LICAOI State General Secretary Ramesh Kumar said that this new central government rule is making huge profits for the government at the cost of LIC agents. Around Rs. 11.54 lakh crores raked in by the LIC as profits belongs to the central government, which means that it is getting maximum profits from the LIC. In spite of this fact, the central government has adopted the policies of foreign companies.

The LIC management has also created a watch list; and any agent who has sold a policy to a holder who dies within one year of purchasing the policy is placed in the watch list. The protestors urged that the LIC should give up its watch list policy.

L. Manjunath of LICAOI, Sunil Kumar Bajal of CITU, Comrade Sindhagi, Comrade Vasanth Achary, and Comrade Gurucharan Rao also participated in the protest.
