Mangalore, Dec 10, 2013: The Department of Botany and Biotechnology of St Aloysius College organized a two day UGC sponsored national seminar on “Trends in environmental biotechnology and its application” under the star college scheme at Eric Mathias hall of the college on December 10, Tuesday.
Participating as the chief guest, Dr TV Ramachandran, Senior scientific officer IISC, Bangalore spoke on the importance of preserving the environment and the role of bio technology in effective waste management.
Citing the example of the role of biotechnology in effective waste management he said that all of the solid waste in Bangalore that was currently dumped should be recycled to get manure which can be used for the land.
He also said that he had an opportunity to work in heaven and that is the Western Ghats. Even students should go to the forest for a couple of days and explore nature.
Dr TV Ramachandran also released “The book of abstract” authored by Dr Shashi Kiran and Aleefa.
Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, the rector, and Rev Fr Swebert D’silva SJ, the college principal presided over the programme.
