Mangaluru, Feb 28, 2015 : Residents of Mulki who were living in fear since the past several months owing to a leopard which was on the prowl in the area, have now heaved a sigh of relief as the big cat has been trapped. Locals said the leopard was found caught in a trap laid by some people using roots of some trees at Elinje Shuntipady hilly area near Kinnigoli on February 27, Friday morning.
Villagers say they had spent sleepless nights ever since the leopard was first spotted in the area nearly 18 months ago along with its two cubs. The leopard was later seen several times in the area and had taken toll on several domestic animals as was evident from them disappearing mysteriously,
On Friday, the leopard was freed from the trap after injecting it with tranquilisers by an anesthetist and veterinarian who were summoned to the spot by the Moodbidri forest officials.
The leopard was later shifted to Pilikula. With regard its two cubs, forest officials say the cubs might have been separated from its mother as they are grown up by now.
