MCC Bags Second Prize for Waste Management Project

Mangalore, Nov 9: Mangalore City Corporation bagged the second place for its project on solid waste management, which it had presented at a 3-day national-level conference on corporation works and processes held at Kolkata. The first prize was given to Mysore City Corporation

At a press conference organized at Mayor Chamber MCC Building, Lalbagh, Mangalore, the Mayor of Mangalore City Shankar Bhatt said that MCC received the second prize for its project on solid waste management at the national level because of its projects and work on solid waste management at Pachanady, Mangalore. He informed press people that MCC can easily boost its revenue by recycling waste and managing it properly. 

Dr Vijaya Prakash, the commissioner of MCC, told media persons that MCC is planning to implement the latest technology in waste management and is also planning to acquire more land for the purpose. He also said that the civic body was considering the use of recycled material in industries. For instance, plastic can be used to make tar for roads; and other material can be used to produce compost. He informed press people that MCC is making plans to manage waste in a useful manner. 

Presently, MCC is getting 2200 tones of waste in Mangalore. The amount of solid waste will increase as the population of Mangalore increase. Therefore, the MCC requires the latest technology as well as land to manage all this waste. Dr Prakash announced that MCC has already approached the government for grants and facilities.
