MCC Commissioner’s assets worth Rs.2.77 crore found; Lokayukta investigation underway

Mangaluru, July 21, 2024: Lokayukta police raided Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner C.L. Anand and 11 other officials on July 19 for alleged possession of disproportionate assets. Over 100 officers searched 54 premises in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Tumkur, and Yadgir.

In Mangaluru, officials searched Mr. Anand’s official residence, office and three houses where his wife and mother lived.  Additionally, there are four acres and 27 guntas of agricultural land, with an asset value of Rs 2.12 crore. Jewelry worth Rs 19.40 lakh, vehicles worth Rs 20.50 lakh, an advance payment of Rs 10 lakh for land purchase, and a bank balance of Rs 16 lakh in the names of his wife and children have been found. The total asset value of Anand C.L. is Rs 2.77 crore, according to the Lokayukta’s statement.

Mr. Anand, appointed MCC Commissioner on June 28, 2023, was transferred after a landslip incident on July 3. He contested the transfer and the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal quashed the order.
