MCF organizes seminar on industrial disaster

Mangalore, Dec 15: Mangalore Chemical Fertilizers (MCF) and the Department of Factories and Boilers, GOK, Mangalore jointly organized a seminar titled “Emergency Medical Management in Industrial Disaster” at Deepa Comfort on Dec 15, Tuesday. 

Dr. Shantharam Shetty, the orthopaedic surgeon, was the chief guest of the inauguration programme. After inaugurating the programme, he made an inaugural speech in which he spoke about disaster management. He said that there are 500 million varieties of chemicals; but a lot of research still needs to be done on it. He also stressed the importance of prevention of disasters. He said that people get a license worth Rs 5 crore, but construct a building worth Rs 8 crore. This usually leads to a disaster; and the hapless contractors are blamed while the victims are neglected. He stressed on the importance of taking immediate action in case of disasters. Every industry must appoint a disaster management expert, he suggested.

Dr. Sriniketan, the dean of the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Suratkal, presented a seminar titled “Probit Analysis.” A R Vijendra, the joint director of Factories, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore, presented a seminar titled “Industrial Disaster - an Overview.” Dr. K Yogish, the manager of Medical Services, MCF; Dr. P Krishna Bhat, the chief medical officer, MRPL; and Dr. T R Udupa, the medical officer, BASF, presented a paper titled “Occupational Health Services in Industries.” Dr. Sudesh Rao, intensivist at AJ Hospital presented a paper on “Basic Lofe Support - Latest Guidelines and Recommendations.” Dr. M Ambareesh, professor of the department of Anesthesiology, KMC, presented a paper on “Medical Management in Industrial Disaster - an Overview.”
