“Coming from a middle-class home representing a tier-2 city, I thank our government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for this visionary Budget,” he said.

One of the standout announcements, according to Capt. Chowta, was the increase in the Nil tax slab to ₹12 lakh, which he noted has brought cheer across the nation. “Our government has always stood by the middle class and its aspirations, recognizing its contribution to nation-building,” he said, adding that the tax relief would save up to ₹80,000 per individual. This, he emphasized, could significantly boost disposable income, leading to increased consumption, investments, and an improved standard of living.

Highlighting the Budget’s relevance to Dakshina Kannada, Capt. Chowta expressed enthusiasm about opportunities for Mangaluru, particularly in the shipbuilding sector. He pledged to ensure the region benefits from the proposed ₹25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund and incentives for Shipbuilding Clusters.

The MP also welcomed initiatives supporting MSMEs and start-ups, noting that the establishment of a national framework for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in tier-2 cities aligns with his earlier request to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for a GCC in Mangaluru.

Capt. Chowta urged the Karnataka government to capitalize on the ₹1.5 lakh crore interest-free loan for infrastructure development, repayable over 50 years. He assured constituents of his efforts to secure necessary funds for regional development.

Describing the Budget as truly inclusive, Capt. Chowta lauded provisions for cancer care centers in district hospitals, cheaper cancer medicines, UPI-linked credit cards for street vendors, loans for women and SC/ST entrepreneurs, and exemptions on basic customs duties for lifesaving drugs.

“This Budget ensures growth for all sections of society while prioritizing compassion and empowerment,” Capt. Chowta said.
