Malpe port assault case: HC orders release of 3 accused

Udupi, March 28, 2025: The State High Court has ordered the release of three accused who were arrested in the case of assaulting a Dalit woman after accusing her of stealing fish at the Malpe Port.

A writ petition was earlier filed questioning the arrest of the three accused. The court which heard the case has ordered the release of the accused namely Lakshmi, Shilpa and Sunder.

Meanwhile the bail application of all the five accused in the case came up for hearing in the Udupi District and Sessions Court.

Public Prosecutor Jayaram Shetty filed objection to the bail application. Meanwhile as the High Court has ordered release of three accused, the court decided to adjourn the hearing of the bail petition of the remaining two accused, to March 29.
