In a complaint, Priyanka, a lecturer, who resides in Kodailbail, said she went on December 8 night to pick up her husband at the Manglauru International Airport. Her husband was to arrive from Mumbai at 9.30 p.m.

As the flight was delayed, she parked her car near the Kankanady flower market at 8.15 p.m. and went with her brother Mayur Devadiga and his wife Niriksha Sherigar to Hollywood Lounge for dinner. When she returned at 10.15 p.m., she was shocked to see the left car window broken. Apart from the laptop, several valuable items kept in her vanity bag, including a mangalsutra with diamond pendant, two diamond earrings, two diamond rings, and an ATM card, were stolen.

CCTV camera footage from the area showed a person with a helmet breaking the window and stealing the articles from the car. The accused was also seen purchasing cigarettes at a stall, a few metres away from the crime scene. Working on these clues, the police said they collected evidence showing that the accused was Akram.

A team of the Mangaluru East police traced Akram and arrested him within 24 hours of the theft. The police recovered jewellery articles and the laptop, which is totally valued at ₹7.3 lakh. The police have so far not found any criminal case registered against Akram.
