Mangalore, Jan 22, 2013: Preparations for the Republic Day celebration are underway in the city, with over 5000 students seen practicing at Nehru Maidan on Jan 22, Tuesday for the mega parade to be held for the first time in Dakshina Kannada district with a view to kindle the spirit of patriotism in children.
The district level Republic Day celebration on January 26 is organised by the District Administration.
Students will exhibit gymnastics talent to the background of Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu patriotic songs as a part of cultural programmes.
The programme has been organized under the leadership of Mangalore DDPI Moses Jayashekar who says he was inspired to hold such programme after witnessing it in Kollegal when he was serving as a BEO. He also said that students from 10 schools will perform gymnastics, while students from 13 schools will lend their voice for the background singing.
A team of 40 teachers led by retired teacher S Balakrishna from Kollegal, are supervising the preparation and training students since a month.
