Mangalore: Eco run Greenathon-2012 on Jan 20

Mangalore, Dec 20, 2012: Greenathon-2013, a five and 10 km run aimed at creating awareness on environment conservation will be held on January 20, 2013 under the joint auspices of SRS Global Industry Solution, District Lions Club and mangalorean.com.

 

Speaking to reporters on December 20, Thursday, Rajesh, one of the organizers said the theme of this year’s event was “Our Dream - Green Mangalore City." The Greenathon is being held for the second time.

MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar  unveiled the logo of the "Greenathon – 2013." Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said  such events help in sensitizing the youth in particular and citizens in general on the need to protect environment. He also appreciated the organisers of the event and their concern for environment.

On the complaints that the MCC was axing more trees to facilitate road widening, he said the forest department has been planting saplings and added so far over 20,000 plants have been planted .This process will continue, he added.

District Lions Governor M B Sadashiva released the posters of the ’Greenathon 2013.’ K Anil, Senior Manager of IOB handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 towards the prize money to Violet Pereira, proprietor of mangalorean.com.
