Mangalore, Dec 14, 2013: State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader who paid a surprise visit to the Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore on December 13, Friday has instructed the hospital staff to give top priority to cleanliness and also maintain a good rapport with the patients.
The Minister who noticed the weeds and shrubs around the hospital building also directed the authorities concerned to clear the same and also remove all the stones stocked in the hospital compound.
District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi and KMC Manager Jayaram who interacted with the minister bright to his notice the problems faced by the 167 year old hospital building. They said the roofing was leaking at places and power and water supply was also not regular. The hospital is also facing drainage problem they said and appealed for a separate team of workers to oversee the maintenance of the hospital.
To the demand to increase the number of beds in the hospital ICU from the present seven to 40, the minister said the problem would be solved once the hospital is upgraded into a Multi-speciality hospital.
On the complaints that patients were made to go to other clinics for x-ray and scanning purposes despite the hospital having the facility, the minister directed the hospital authorities to put up a board with the contact details of the district surgeon and higher authorities so that the aggrieved patients can contact them.
