Mangalore, Oct 7, 2013: DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai said the biggest challenge facing the society is conservation of the rich flora and fauna and the bio-diversity of the region.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the Wildlife Week programmes at the Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula on October 6, Sunday. On this occasion, the minister inaugurated Animal Enclosures at the Nisargadhama.
Rai further said Wildlife Week celebrations aimed at sensitizing the society on the need to protect wildlife, which are invaluable treasures of the nation.
Fisheries and Youth Services Minister K Abhayachandra Jain who was present as a chief guest, said Pilikula Nisargadhama has over the years emerged as a great tourist spot.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South urged the government to evince special interest in setting up an Aqua Park at a cost of Rs 9 core at the Nisargadhama.
Moidin Bava, Mangalore North MLA, Yashawanthi Alva, ZP Member, Harish Kumar, Taluk Panchayat President, S Krishnamurthi, Executive Director of Shivaram Karanth Biological Park, HJ Bhandari, Director of Pilikula Nisargadhama and others were present.
