Mangalore: ’Raknno’ platinum jubilee celebrations inaugurated

Mangalore, Dec 22, 2012: The platinum jubilee celebrations of ‘Raknno’ Konkani weekly  were inaugurated at a function held at Bishop’s House in Mangalore on December 22, Saturday.  Rev Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore unveiled the ‘Raknno jubilee logo on the occasion.


The Bishop who presided over the function  congratulated team ‘Raknno’ on the occasion of its stepping into the 75th year of publication. He said ‘Raknno’ which made a small beginning in 1938, has now established itself as a large organization.  He hoped ‘Raknno’ would march ahead with the same endeavour and continue to strive to uphold Konkani language, literature and culture, while keeping Konkani speaking people informed of the happenings around.

Kasargod Chinna, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, who was the chief guest,  said ‘Raknno’ has played a significant role in encouraging Konkani writers.


Monsignor Alexander D’Souza, Fr Mark Walder, former editors of Raknno; Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor and CGS Taccode, convener, platinum jubilee  were on the dais.

A seminar on ’Contribution of Raknno to Religion, Society and Literature’ was held on the occasion. Edwin J F D’Souza, writer and Executive Director of St Aloysius College Konkani Institute, Dr Edward Nazareth, senior writer and orthopaedician and Hemacharya, Editor-in-chief Daijiworld Weekly  presented papers on the topic. Fr Mark Walter, former editor moderated the session.


Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of World Konkani Centre, Fr William Menezes, PRO of Mangalore Diocese Judith Mascarenhas,Vitori Karkal, Dolphy Cascia and others were present on the occasion.
