Mangalore, Dec 10, 2012: An outreach programme aimed at the economic and holistic development of community members was organized by Shanthi Cathedral in Mangalore on December 9, Sunday. The event marked the 150th anniversary celebration of the Cathedral.
Under the programme Shanthi Cathedral aims to extend aid to various churches located in remote and backward areas. Some of the programmes include regular visit to the shrines, trying to raise funds for progress works and organizing programmes for children, youth and women.
On Sunday, the CSI Greater Memorial Church at Mundur was formally adopted as part of an adoption programme of rural churches.
Dennis M Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese, who was the chief guest, said churches play a very important role in the social and economic upliftment of people living in the parish limits. He was also all praise for Shanthi Cathedral for its various activities in the social, cultural and educational front.
Dr John S Sadananda Bishop of Karnataka Southern Diocese presided over the function. G Devakadasham, Moderator of Church of South India, UT Khader, MLA were present as chief guests
