Mangalore plane crash: Keyster files criminal complaint against AI

August 3: Retired Senior Instructor Pilot of Boeing Anthony P. Keyster, who also trained the crews of Air India (AI) for three months in India, has lodged a criminal complaint against AI officials seeking to book them under charges of kidnap and murder and for causing the deaths of 158 passengers and crew members of AI Express IX 812 at Mangalore International Airport on May 22.

Keyster sent the complaint to Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari, who has forwarded it to Chandrashekar Hiremat, the deputy director of prosecution. Hiremat has forwarded the complaint to Superintendent of Police, Mangalore because a case has already been registered at Bajpe Police Station.


Keyster has mentioned the names of 43 senior Air India officials and has sought registration of criminal charges under IPC Section 301. The complaint states that the flight was operated under unsafe climatic conditions and that the crash was the result of lawlessness. Keyster has also stated that AI has violated aircraft rules and safety regulations as well as the Aviation Act.
