Mangalorean Ashwin Naik wins Indian National Rally Championship 2012

Mangalore, Dec 25,2012: Mangalore has something to cheer about in the Indian National Rally Championship  2012. The pair of Amittrajit Ghosh from Kolkata and co-driver Ashwin Naik from Mangalore, has emerged overall winners in the event.


The pair  topped the  championship table with 51 points  after it finished first in the Chikmagalur Rally (Round 2) in November this year. The rally is conducted by the  Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

The Round 3 of the rally at Maharashtra  was however cancelled  after the organisers failed to secure requisite permission from the authorities.  The rally was thus reduced to just two rounds this year - the Karnataka 1000 and the Coffee Day Rally. The duo from MRF team was thus declared champions  by default in the Group N, 2000 cc category.


Lohitt Urs and co-driver Sujith Kumar who scored 45 points were declared runners-up while the third position went to Karna Kadur and Somonitha Ghosh who scored 38 points.


Mangalorean Ashwin Naik is the co-Founder of Indian Motor Sports Club. He has earlier won several rallies including the SJOBA Sub Himalayan Rally 2012,  Desert Storm rally 2012 and Round 3 Thailand 4x4 rally.
