Mangaluru: Cops file case after video of parcel thrown inside jail compound goes viral

Mangaluru, February 25, 2025: A video of two unidentified persons in a two-wheeler throwing a parcel inside the compound of the district prison, from an adjacent road has gone viral. The video was recorded on the dashcam of former mayor Kavitha Sanil’s vehicle on Sunday. A case has been registered in Barke police station in this regard.

The incident took place on February 23 at around 2.30 pm when Kavitha Sanil was passing through jail road. Following this, the jail authorities conducted an inspection and reportedly found cigarette packets, mobile phone, tea powder and soyabean in the parcel. Investigations revealed that the packet thrown inside the jail compound was lifted by Rafique, an undertrial lodged in cell no. 9 of the quarantine cell.

Cops have seized a mobile phone, three cigarette packets, a lighter, tea powder in a plastic packet and soyabean in another packet which was found in his possession.

It has been learnt that the scooter in which the men who threw the parcel arrived, had no number plate.
