Mangaluru: Duo sentenced to 10 years jail for trying to kill cop on duty

Mangaluru, September 10, 2024: The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced two persons to ten years imprisonment apart from imposing a fine of Rs 16000 each in a case attempting to murder a constable of Ullal police station.

Those convicted are Mustaq (32) and Jakir (36) both from Ullal. Two other accused Yasin and Ashraf are absconding.

The incident had occurred on the night of December 17, 2015 when the Ullal head constable Umesh and constable Ravindra visited a place in Ullal after gathering information that some people were disrupting peace by throwing bottles in public places.

When the cops arrived, the accused abused them and even tried to harm constable Ravindra by stabbing him. The accused were prevented by head constable Ramesh. The accused reportedly tried to harm both the cops.

Following a complaint, the police had registered a case and the then Ullal ASI had filed the charge sheet.
