Mangaluru: Karavali Utsav gets off to a colourful start

Mangaluru, Jan 24, 2016: Dr Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University inaugurated Karavali Utsav at the ground  near Mangala Stadium on  January 23, Saturday. Prior to the inaugural, a colourful procession reflecting the culture and tradition of the land was taken out from  Kadri Park to the venue of the event. The procession was flagged off by well-known Yakshagana Bhagavatha Kolyur Ramachandra Rao.

 

In his inaugural address, Dr Shantharam Shetty spoke nostalgically about Mangaluru, a city he loves and has been living since the past several decades.

DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai who was   present  as a chief guest , stressed the need for  peace and harmony in a district inhabited by  people of different faiths.

JR Lobo, MLA presided over the function.  Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Mayor of Mangaluru, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Purushottam Chitrapur, Deputy Mayor, Roy Castelino, Konkani Academy President and others were present .

A variety of cultural programmes were held.
