Mangaluru, Feb 01, 2018: The Madivala Machideva and Ambigara Chowdayya Jayanthi was celebrated at the Netravathi auditorium of Zilla Panchayat on February 1, Wednesday.
Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdayya, who was a social reformer of the 12th century, was a contemporary of Basaveshwara who devoted his life for establishing a casteless society. Machideva is a legendary Sharana and warrior of the 12th century.
The programme began by offering floral tributes to the portraits of the two great personalities. Delivering a lecture, writer Sadananda Naravi said Madivala Machideva had played a pivotal role in preservation of Vachana literature. He had also fought against inequality, caste and class system and blind beliefs, he added.
Dr Nagappa Gowda R, Convenor of the Ambigara Chowdaiah Peetha of Mangalore University spoke on the great personality . He said the need of the hour is the Religion of Humanity which reformers like Chowdaiah had advocated.
B H Khader, Chairman of Karnataka Cashew Corporation presided over the function. ZP CEO Dr M R Ravi, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Chandrahas Rai B and others were present.
