Mangaluru: Sambar deer killed for birthday feast; meat seized by forest officials

Uppinangady, October 19, 2024: Uppinangady forest officials have seized the meat of a sambar deer that was stored in the refrigerator of a house after shooting dead the animal. It is learnt, the deer was killed for a feast on the birthday of the son of one of the accused. Forest officials have also seized a gun used to hunt the deer.

It is learnt, Gundya resident Suresh and his accomplices had hunted the deer. The Uppinangady forest officials who acted on a tip off, raided the residence of Suresh and seized the meat and the gun. The accused fled the place by swimming across the Gundya lake and evaded arrest.

A case has been registered and investigations are in progress.
