Mangaluru: Three sentenced to 20 years jail for serial rape, drugging a minor

Mangaluru, February 1, 2025: A Mangaluru court has sentenced three persons to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on finding them guilty of serially raping a 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions after drugging the victim.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court-2, Mangaluru, K.S. Maanu, sentenced Mohammad Shakeer alias Sakeer,Abdul Samad alias Samad and Abhijith alias Abhi to imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹40,000 for the offence punishable under Section 376 (D) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

They were also sentenced to three years’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 for offences under Sections 363 and 328 of IPC, sentenced to one year simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 for offences under Sections 343 and 506 of IPC, six months imprisonment and a fine of ₹500 for offence under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were further sentenced to three months in jail and fined ₹500 for offence under Section 27(D) of NDPS Act. All the sentences will run concurrently, the Judge noted.

Prosecutor K. Badrinath Nairy presented before the court that Shakeer and Samad abducted the minor girl from Thokkottu bus stand on December 7, 2021 and kept her in a room at a lodge, in Manjeshwar in Kerala. They raped her on December 11, 2021 after forcing her to consume alcohol and cannabis. Then they dropped her in Natekal in the night. Later Abhijith took her in his car to an apartment in Pajir village. Here, again she was forced to consume alcohol and cannabis, and the three accused raped her, he stated.

The Judge said total fine amount of ₹ 1.65 lakh should be paid to the victim girl. The victim is entitled for further compensation of ₹ 2.35 lakh from District Legal Services Authority under Victim Compensation Scheme, the Judge stated.
