Mangaluru, April 16, 2025: A distressing case of gang rape has emerged from the outskirts of Ullal city, near the Netravati river, late on Wednesday night. Police have arrested one of the accused, an auto-rickshaw driver, in connection with the incident.
The assault reportedly took place near Bolla House, at the border between Munnuru village and Ullal Municipality. The victim, a young woman from West Bengal, had recently arrived in Mangaluru seeking employment and had been residing in Uppala, Kerala.
According to sources, the woman had come to the city with a male friend. Following an argument, the two separated, leaving her alone at night. She approached a rickshaw driver for assistance. The driver allegedly offered her a ride, administered an intoxicating substance, and, along with two others, sexually assaulted her.
In a semi-conscious state and bearing visible injuries, the woman reportedly knocked on a local resident’s door late at night, asking for water. She collapsed before she could explain what had happened. The residents promptly alerted the authorities.
She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed multiple injuries. Due to the effects of intoxication, she was initially unable to communicate clearly.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal later visited the crime scene as the investigation continues.
