Mangaluru: Youth from Mumbai drowns in sea, another missing

Surathkal, April 16, 2025: An 18-year-old from Mumbai drowned in the sea off NIT-K beach, in Surathkal, on Tuesday. His 15-year-old relative is missing.

The Surathkal police identified the deceased as Dhyan Banjan of Mumbai. The search is on for Dhyan’s relative, who is also from Mumbai.

The police said the two were among 10 members of the family of Prakyath, a resident of Soorinje, who had come to the beach. While the rest were enjoying in the water, the two went in deep and were caught in the cross currents at about 5.30 p.m.

A lifeguard brought Banjan to shore. He was taken to a nearby hospital but declared dead.

The Surathkal police are searching for the missing boy with the help of Fire and Emergency Services personnel, Coastal Security Police and lifeguards. A case has been registered at Surathkal police station.
