Bengaluru, February 07, 2025: Mangaluru’s Water Metro project, modeled after Kochi’s successful initiative, is on track to launch by March 2026, promising to transform urban mobility in the region.
The Karnataka Maritime Board (KMB) is currently conducting a feasibility study for the electric ferry system, which aims to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and cut travel times by integrating seamlessly with existing road and rail networks.
In an exclusive interview with News18, Jayaram Raipura, CEO of the Karnataka Maritime Board, revealed that a techno-economic feasibility report is underway to ensure the project’s viability and self-sustainability. “The Mangaluru Water Metro will follow a similar model to Kochi’s but will be more economically viable and robust,” Raipura explained.
He emphasized that while the Kochi Water Metro relies on state support, Mangaluru’s version is designed to sustain itself while also boosting local travel and tourism. If the study yields positive results, the project is expected to become a reality by the target date.
