Udupi, May 02, 2023: The Matsyagandha Train Service operating between Mumbai Lokamanya Tilak Terminus and Mangaluru Central, celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 1, Monday. The train which arrived at the Indrali Railway Station at 3.48 pm on Monday was accorded a grand welcome.
The then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and then Railway Minister George Fernandes flagged off the first passenger train on the completed Konkan Railway Corporation network of 741 kms between Roha and Thokur, on May 1, 1998.
When the train arrived at Udupi on its silver jubilee run, it was welcomed and its loco pilot and other staff were honoured by Railway Yatri Sangha of Udupi. Sweets were also distributed to the passengers.
Though it was an occasion to celebrate there was also a little bit of regret over lack of upgradation facilities and the problems faced by the passengers of this train due to frequent thefts.
