Lauding the PWD for its excellent work, he said that the first and second phase of the construction of the college building will soon be completed. Commenting on the condition of the roads, he said that road repair work will be soon completed and that the patchwork will be done within 2 months. Since the PWD focused on quality this year, the roads will not be damaged till the next rains, he assured.

Giving a report of PWD activities, Superintendent Engineer of Mangalore Circle of PWD Balakrishna said that the results achieved by the PWD, and not just its activities, are more important. He said that roads will not be damaged if good-quality bitumen is used while repairing or constructing them.

Providing information on the lab, he said that 3 main varieties of work are being done and the use of field test equipment is involved. Stating that engineers are being trained to test bitumen, he said that the circle had only one lab at first, but now each taluk has a lab, which greatly simplifies quality testing. Rs. 15.5 crore has already been released for the establishment of the Science and Technology Centre at Pilikula, he said, adding that tender will be called for the construction of a drama theatre.
