Mangaluru, June 26, 2022: A mock rescue operation and a training to 160 personnel of rescue teams was organised by the District Administration on the Ullal beach. The mock exercise aimed at keeping the rescue teams ready in the event of an oil leakage from the foreign vessel that has submerged in the sea near Someshwar. The operation also aimed at ensuring there was no oil leakage from the sunken vessel.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said there is information that the sunken ship had 160 metric tonne oil storage apart from 60 metric ton engine oil
Efforts are on to extract oil from the sunken ship with the help of all stakeholders concerned, he added.
As many as 140 have been trained to tackle the situation in accordance to suggestion from oil spill crisis team and other technical experts, he added.
He said once the oil in the sunken vessel is extracted there will be an investigation on how the mishap took place.
